Fireproof curtain or Fire Retardant Curtain
Please note that the term "fireproof" is often mistakenly used interchangeably to describe fire retardant curtains. However, no fabric can be entirely fireproof. Instead, our curtains are fire-resistant, meaning they will resist ignition and slow the spread of flames, giving anyone in harm’s way valuable time to escape spreading fire.
This distinction is crucial to understand as it highlights two important factors; the first being that no curtain will ever be fully fireproof, be weary if you read otherwise and secondly, the importance of implementing additional fire safety measures alongside our curtains in the design of any hospital, medical or clinical setting.
Flame Resistant Fabric
Fire resistant curtains are made from a variety of flame-resistant fabrics. Some of these fabrics are inherently flame resistant, such as wool or aramid fibers (commonly known as Kevlar), while others undergo chemical treatment to achieve flame resistance. Chemical treatments common in the use of fire retardant fabrics used in our curtains include; the application of halogenated flame retardants, phosphorus-based retardants, or inorganic compounds like boron and aluminum hydroxide.
CAN/ULC S109
All our fabrics meet or exceed the specific standards set by regulatory bodies like the Canadian CAN/ULC S109, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and both the Ontario Fire Code as well as the Requirements of the National Fire Code in Quebec.
